Steve, who was a highly accomplished baseball player, won the British Baseball Cup, known as the 'English Cup' in 1894-1895, 1896-1897, 1897-1898. His position was 2nd Base. The Derby Baseball Club was owned by Francis Ley (pronounced LAY) of Ley's Malleable Castings Iron Foundry adjacent to the Baseball Ground. Home matches were all played at the Baseball Ground.
